Training Day 2: How Premeds Can Stop Studying And Start Learning
I’m really excited to give you all an interview I recently did with Scott H Young. Scott has one of the most unique methods I’ve ever used to quickly and easily learn and recall information. We’ve integrated what he calls “Holistic Learning” as a central part of the PremedTutor System and I got him to sit down and chat with me about premed programs and the particular challenges you are facing with your degree.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Some ppl have been having problems with the audio, you can download the interview here.
Go check out the next training session where I discuss premed challenges with Dr Daniel Williams
By the way, Scott has been nice enough to give you a free chapter of his book for you all, you can check it out here.

Hey Liam, I love Scott’s stuff and I’ve read his blog for quite a while now. I love his idea of holistic learning and I’m going to read that free chapter he included.
Jen
@ Jen I love Scott’s stuff as well! That’s why I integrated his learning methodologies into Premed Success
Holistic learning is a very interesting concept. I’ve tried to implement something like that into my own studying myself but I haven’t had much success. Scott talking specifically about how premed students can use this system is quite interesting and I’m excited to find out how you will implement this type of learning method into your program.
I agree with victor, I think this learning style is very interesting and may work with premed students but I’m staying cautiously skeptical. I’ve tried these kinds of study tricks before and I’ve been met with quite a lot of frustration and failure.
Hopefully your program will change my track record!
If you already have experience in different learning methodologies you’re 10 steps ahead. What you need now is a system specifically tailored to premed students so you can start seeing results.
@ Ellen
Thanks for the comment Ellen. I’ll be sending you a few more trainings that will hopefully explain the details of the program.
I have been a follower of Scott’s and I too am intrigued by the idea of holistic learning in the premed setting. When you first look at holistic learning, the things you may ascribe it to are subjects like history or english or even calculus. But it is much deeper than that. It is a complete learning system which can be used for ANYTHING. This is very important to note in that the main perception you get with premedical studies is that you have to rote memorize everything and hide in the library all day and night to succeed. But I think that the idea of holistic learning and the sciences is very interesting and I, like everyone else, would like to know the specifics of how this would work.
This is so interesting, i actually use some of the ways of learning he mentions, i have taken anatomy and did well in it by using his methods, i never thought that was a real learning style. I will post this onto facebook.
For me, even with the connection approach (holistic), I still need to repeat at least 5-7 times by the time of the final exam. I want more information as to how to maintain knowledge after one-time learning.
@ Yazdaan
It’s great that you’re already using these techniques. Our system is optimized specifically for premed students and Scott will be stopping by from time to time to help everyone with the program. So stay tuned.
@ Satoki
Holistic learning does have a steep learning curve but can produce amazing results if properly applied. Our program specifically targets one time learning from a premed context so you’ll be able to skip the heavy learning curve and get into the system immediately.
@ Sudhakar
You’re a perfect candidate for our new program. My goal is to free students from their university dorm rooms and libraries through learning properly. I’m amazed how many premed students still use rote memorization to get through their undergrads.
Is anyone having audio problems with the flash player? The host sounds like he’s talking to himself followed by dead air.
@ Petty
I’ve added a direct download link for you Petty. Hope you enjoy it
I really am intrigued with what Scott has to say! I actually have had difficult times in my science classes because I felt I had to just memorize and regurgitate everything I read or the professors talked about. I really like the fact of grouping “like things” together and also making connections. Our brain indeed is a neural network and not a computer. Holistic learning is something I am going to utilize as I will be starting fresh with this technique when the spring semester starts. What I also liked is when you mentioned your friend about learning the French word, “ga” for train station. That was a great vivid example about Garfield riding on a train! I look foward to more free premed stuff and thanks!
